The recently concluded World Gas Conference held from May 19 to 23, 2025, in Beijing, China, marked a significant milestone in the global energy sector. Organised by the International Gas Union (IGU), the event convened over 30,000 participants from more than 70 countries, including policymakers, industry leaders, and technical experts, to discuss the evolving role of natural gas in a sustainable energy future.
At the conference, prominent Nigerian stakeholders from the public and private sectors reinforced the urgency and the promise of sustainable transformation, leveraging natural gas as a transitional fuel.
Unlocking Nigeria’s Gas Wealth: A Catalyst for Sustainability in Africa
At the conference, Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), reaffirmed the country’s massive natural gas potential. Nigeria holds over 207 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of proven natural gas reserves, positioning it as the largest in Africa and among the top ten globally.
Dr. Ekpo emphasized that gas would play a “transitional and transformative” role in helping Nigeria, and indeed Africa, the Minister also stressed Nigeria’s commitment to the Decade of Gas initiative, a national campaign aimed at expanding gas-based infrastructure and promoting its use across domestic, industrial, and export markets. This aligns with Africa’s energy goal, “universal energy access” by 2030, which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) which aims to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.”
During the event, Tetracore’s Program Executive, OLADAYO WILLIAMS showcased the company’s ongoing gas infrastructure development projects, which are strategically designed to provide clean, reliable, and cost-effective energy alternatives to industrial and commercial consumers. Dayo stated that “these initiatives are central to our mission of providing sustainable energy solutions while actively promoting increased gas utilization in Nigeria and beyond by leveraging local capacity throughout our supply chain, we reduce operational energy costs and contribute to broader economic and environmental sustainability goals.”
Key projects highlighted include the expansion of our state-of-the-art CNG compression facility, the development of a 10 MMSCFD LNG plant, and a 100 MW Independent Power Project (IPP) in Nigeria—each representing a milestone in our commitment to powering industries with cleaner fuels. In addition, Tetracore is leading the establishment of Ghana’s first CNG facility, a pioneering effort that underscores our regional ambition and innovation-driven approach.
These projects are a testament to our strategic partnerships with both local and international stakeholders, which are driven towards accelerating Nigeria’s energy transition journey. Tetracore’s vision aligns perfectly with national goals, offering a tangible blueprint of what private sector leadership in sustainability should look like.
Investment Opportunities: Why Now Is the Time to Bet on Nigeria’s Clean Energy Sector
As global investors continue to realign their portfolios toward sustainable energy ventures, Nigeria is becoming a hotspot for green energy investments especially in the gas sector.
With favorable government policies, rising domestic demand for cleaner fuels, and an abundance of untapped resources, the conditions are ripe for smart, long-term investments. Projects like those championed by Tetracore Energy Group offer a strong value proposition for forward-thinking investors seeking to:
- Support low-carbon energy projects
- Tap into Africa’s emerging industrial markets
- Align with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) frameworks
By investing in gas-based infrastructure and clean energy systems, stakeholders have the chance to not only generate returns but also drive impactful change across energy access, environmental health, and economic empowerment in Nigeria.
The message from the World Gas Conference was clear: Nigeria is not just ready for an energy transition it is already on the path. With visionary leadership, strategic public-private collaborations, and ambitious projects like those led by Tetracore Energy Group, and other key energy stakeholders, the country is building a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
